san francisco!

The SJU Senate is sending me and another girl to San Francisco Jan 14-16 for an Ignation Solidarity Network retreat! I am so excited to go to the west coast and explore for a couple of days (all expenses included nonetheless!). I represented SJU at another leadership camp in Fordham this passed summer as well. It is so fun to go around and be the face of the school. I am really excited to have such this opportunity!

finals week.

The past three weeks were absolute chaos. Finals week is so bizarre to me. How does the school think it is possible for students to concentrate on five different subjects in one week and then take a test to ultimately determine the grade for the course? I had one final each day for five days. Naturally, I studied like a fiend for the first one, Macroeconomics, and then gradually got more and more burnt out as Friday's Western Civ final approached.

I think finals week should be a time for teachers should reward students for their progress throughout the semester. A 35% final on sixteen chapters is completely unnecessary, and brutal to say the least. I worked my butt off, literally. I woke up, went to the study room, library or senate office until the sun went down again. I was surprised my butt didn't form to the square shaped chair by the end of the day.

I am so happy that the week is over, the results of my hardwork have yet to be posted. I check the website about every half hour. We shall see!

the tradition continues

This week was lined up with many traditions that were filled with friends and family. It was so nice to relax and get into the holiday spirit!

On Wednesday night was the homecoming parade. It has already been two years since I was sitting on the back of one of the convertibles! It was great to catch up with some friends (Amy and Lindsay are below) and reminisce on the times when we built the floats and were a part of the parade. However, it is nice to be able to stand under shelter with a bathroom and heater in reach!
Hannah continues the tradition today and is a member of student council. Her class theme was "Sophsmores". They did a camp fire and wilderness float. It was very impressive, but of course I am partial to the floats that I built back in my student council days. The parade is definitely a family affair. Ben drove a firetruck for Goodwill. It's a little nerve racking to see Ben behind a wheel of a firetruck (or anything for that matter).
Thanksgiving morning was the annual Manasquan VS. Wall football game. I love how it is also a family rivalry. With cousins from Wall, it makes Manasquan's victory all the more exciting!

For Thanksgiving dinner, we went to the Turner's house. It was nice to just hang out and eat with everyone. Despite the control I had during dinner, the desserts won me over. Needless to say, I left with a very full stomach and quickly changed into my "fat clothes" (I know everyone knows EXACTLY which clothes I am talking about).
All day Friday we raced around the house to get ready for the Christmas Light Party. As everyone knows, Ben's Christmas display is just as much insane as it is amazing. In the picture below, Hannah and Catherine made Rice Krispie treats for the party afterwards.
We are aware that this does not look safe, but if the eagle scouts think it's safe, the girls in the house have learned not to ask questions... A lot of friends and family came out to watch Ben turn on the display. It's great to see everyone support him and all of the work he puts in for the community during the holidays! Sarah was trying her best to get Avvie's attention, I hope it turned out to be a successful picture! On Saturday, my last night home, was Spring Lake's tree lighting. All the stores were open and decorated with intricate window displays. Many of the store owners were outside pouring hot chocolate and handing out candy canes. Ben and the rest of the fire department waited by their trucks as the different theater and dance companies performed. It was great to be home and enjoy all of these events! I'm really lucky to live in a town that continues these traditions each year and to watch them get better and better as the years go by. Only two more weeks of classes and a week of finals until Christmas break!

consignment.

After a long week of projects, midterms and quizzes, my friends and I went to main street Manayunk for a few hours to relax. I know everyone in my family loves a great sale story therefore I figured it was a MUST to share it with you. We walked into a store called Green Street. At first, we thought it was a regular store with fancy lighting and a nice layout, but to our grand surprise it was a consignment shop! Now for the steals... I found a light pink and white Burberry scarf for $24! I did a little research online and it was originally $125. Then, I raced through the sweater section looking at every price tag and designer. I came across an Ann Taylor 100 % cashmere sweater. It is a rich, plum color with a simple v-neck. Even better, it was only $18! Ca-ching. I resisted the urge to buy a $120 baby blue coach purse, but it's up in the air whether or not I will go back tomorrow to purchase it. There is nothing like a great sale to start of the weekend and the year's best shopping season!
